THE WEEK THAT WAS: INAUGURAL WEEKEND
Chicago, Ill - It was an exciting inaugural week in the Women’s Major League Indoor Soccer (WMLIS).
Summit City United (Fort Wayne, Ind.) headed to Michigan for the inaugural game of the women’s league, facing off against Zoo City FC (Kalamazoo, Mich.). Summit made a strong debut with a 8-4 victory.
Meanwhile, Chicago Mustangs hosted Chicago Pao, securing a 19-9 victory in both the teams inaugural matches in the league.
Summit City vs Zoo City
Zoo City came out strong in the first quarter, quickly establishing a 2-0 lead with two goals from Maria Mauer. Summit responded late in the quarter with Rachel Sweigard’s goal, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Summit City pushed back in the second quarter with a string of goals to make it 6-2 at halftime.
Zoo City made a comeback in the second half with two goals from Susana Roberts. Despite Zoo City’s comeback Summit City brought the win home with a final of 8-4.
Chicago Mustangs vs Chicago Pao
The game began with PAO taking an early lead, courtesy of Julia Peterson’s goal just 2:24 seconds in. Pao brought their lead to 2-0 but the Mustangs came back late in the first quarter to make it 4-3 going into the second. The Mustangs continued their attack scoring 7 goals in the second quarter with Pao scoring 1, 11-4 at the half.
The second half saw Stephanie Nunez from the Mustangs extend their lead to 12-4 before Declan Jeter brought back PAO to make it 5. Mustangs quickly answered with 2 goals of their own, and in the end of the third quarter Mustangs stood out with a 15-6 differential. In the fourth quarter, PAO made a comeback with three goals in a row to make their total 9 for the game, however the Mustangs ended the match with a goal sealing an astounding 19-9 victory over Chicago PAO.
