The Week That Was 3/2: Utah Uprising Leads the Way as Chicago, Ft. Wayne, and Phoenix Pick Up Wins

Chicago, Illinois – This past weekend in the Women's Major League Indoor Soccer (WMLIS) featured an action-packed slate of games, with three matchups on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Salt Lake City Utah Uprising secured two victories, while Chicago, Ft. Wayne, and Phoenix each claimed a win.
Here’s a full recap of the weekend’s matchups:
Phoenix vs. Salt Lake City - March 7
4-0 (Salt Lake City)
This past weekend in the WMLIS, the Salt Lake City Utah Uprising handed Phoenix Pulse FC a 4-0 defeat. Dominique Estrada led the scoring with two goals, while Chelsey Campbell Sanchez and Mckenzie Evans-Tostado added one each.
Salt Lake City vs. Phoenix - March 7
6-5 (Salt Lake City)
In a back-and-forth battle, Salt Lake City edged out Phoenix 6-5. Estrada scored twice to lead the Uprising, while Kayla E Gonzalez, Amber Tripp, Anna Hall, and Katrina Estrada also found the net. Phoenix kept it close with goals from Cassie Hale, Adriana Orozco, Jessica Salanic, Aly Moon, and Katrina Wetherell, but couldn’t complete the comeback.
Chicago vs. Kalamazoo - March 7
10-3 (Chicago)
The Chicago Mustangs defeated Kalamazoo Zoo City FC 10-3 on Saturday. Valerie Battisti, Yeyahs Macias, Carol Fernanda Soto, Shannon Walter, Sangjun Hornewer, Kelly Collins, and Kaley Kowal all contributed goals as Chicago pulled away early and never looked back. Kalamazoo managed three goals from Sara Bruns and Nikki Page.
Phoenix vs. Las Vegas - March 8
5-3 (Phoenix)
Phoenix Pulse FC bounced back with a 5-3 victory over the Las Vegas Turf Monsters. Justyse Smith led the charge with a hat trick, while Katrina Wetherell and Addison Cress added one goal each. Las Vegas fought back with goals from Geraldi Gomez, Baylie Saunders, and Chelsey Nicol, but couldn’t overcome Phoenix’s early lead.
Kalamazoo vs. Ft. Wayne - March 8
9-8 (Ft. Wayne)
Ft. Wayne Summit City Sentinels narrowly defeated Kalamazoo Zoo City FC 9-8. Ft. Wayne jumped out to an early lead with goals from Vivian Purmonen, Leena Thomas, Alyssa Weiseman, Natalia Lima, and Alexandra Rodas Nicholls. Kalamazoo fought back fiercely in the second half with Morgan Hadaway, Syerra Metzler, Jessica Kennedy, Brenna Musser, and Piper Wennemar leading the charge, but fell just short in the end.
