Chicago Wins Over Ft. Wayne in Weekend Opener

The first weekend of the Women’s Major League Indoor Soccer (WMLIS) season concluded with the Chicago Mustangs earning a 9–2 victory over the Ft. Wayne Summit City Sentinels on Saturday night. After Ft. Wayne opened the scoring early in the first period, Chicago responded with sustained offensive pressure and controlled the remainder of the match.

Chicago outscored Ft. Wayne 3–0 in the second period to take a 4–1 lead at halftime and continued to extend the margin in the third and fourth periods. The Chicago offense produced goals from nine different scoring sequences and finished with 38 shots, compared to Ft. Wayne’s 13.

Kelly Collins led Chicago with two goals and two assists, while Evelyn Flores recorded seven saves in goal. Chicago added three goals in the final period to close the match. Ft. Wayne’s goals were scored by Leila Mojtahedi in the first period and Kayla Thomas late in the third.

The match marked one of the opening contests of the inaugural WMLIS weekend, setting an early tone for high-tempo play and offensive depth across the league.
